Time for a picture update. No news a such, but a few pictures from last weekend, when the ponies were moved to their winter quarters. They are now turned out on the stubble, this saves the grass paddocks and gives them lots of scope to roam over the winter months.

Image: Ponies enjoying the Autumn sunshine

Hard to believe that we are well through October already. We have started weaning some of the foals now, Flute's foal was weaned last weekend and Maddy and Moonlight's today.

Image: Lochlands Musetta

We had a lovely sunny afternoon a couple of days ago, so I thought I would take the chance and get some last photos of the foals before they were weaned. I got a few sleeping foals before the batteries in the camera died !

Many thanks to Debbie for sending me the following lovely photos of Lochlands Banjo. Banjo has enjoyed another very successful showing season and has added a new string to his bow,now competing in side saddle classes.

Time for a picture update, some photos of Flute's colt foal.

Lochlands Royal Flute ( Rignell Sassenach x Flute of Whitefield).

Image: Lochlands Royal Flute

He spends most of his time with Mandy as opposed to his own mother, and helps himself to her milkbar as well ! Mandy is such a lovely tolerant mare, this year she has fed her own foal, and we have seen both Flute's and Moonlight's foal helping themselves as well. I don't think many mares would be so tolerant.

Thank you to Kathleen Grant who sent me the lovely photograph below of Lochlands Military Piper.

Piper is now 2yo, a licensed stallion and is owned by Kathleen,in Orkney. He has settled his first three mares in foal, and I look forward to continued news of Piper and of the arrival of his foals next year.

Our show season has ended on a successful note with Madonna winning the 3yo class at both Blair Castle and Duthie Park Shows.

The ponies are well and the one bonus of the wet summer is that we still have plenty of grass, which is very welcome at this time of year.

The foals are all doing well, and I really will try and get the camera out and take some photos again soon.

Not pony news, but we have a lovely new arrival, in the shape of 'Lily', a delightful little kitten.

Apolgies for not updating before now. I had hoped to have had new photos of the foals, but we have spent so many days in the thick mist off the sea recently, that taking pictures has been impossible.

We have been to two shows since last writing, The HPS Breed Show and Perth Show.

The breed show was blessed with a lovely day, I think everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief, no one wanted a repeat of the day of torrential rain that we had to endure last year. Sylvie was 3rd in the brood mare class, Silver Drum was second prize colt foal, Donna was 3rd prize 3yo filly. Donna and Ailsa of Sunnyneuk were 2nd prize in the new progeny pairs class, both fillies being by Concorde of Whitefield.

Perth is a two day show and the weather on Friday was horrendous, extremely wet, so things were not boding good for Saturday. However, thankfully the weather improved and although the rings were somewhat mucky from the previous days classes, we had a pleasant warm day. The showers that kept threatening, passed by and we had no more than a few spits of rain.

Sylvie was 2nd in the brood mare class and her foal Silver Drum was 2nd prize colt foal. Photos below:

We had a most enjoyable day out to Fettercairn Show on Saturday, sadly this show was cancelled last year due to the huge amount rain that fell in the few days before, thankfully no weather problems this year, a lovely dry sunny day.

Once again we took Donna and Sylvie. Sadly there were no other mares and foals forward on the day, however Donna won her class, went on to be highland pony champion and much to our surprise and delight, was also Reserve Overall Horse Champion.

We have decided to call Sylvie's foal, Lochlands Silver Drum. Photos below leading and I couldn't resist the very sleepy foal picture, this showing lark is very tiring for a baby !

We haven't been out to any shows since our last update so don't have any news as such. This was the first year since the early 1980's that I haven't shown at The Royal Highland Show, however it made a very pleasant change to be spectating and enjoy watching the judging of all the classes. Congratulations to the Baird family who took the Championship with their lovely mare Islay of Whitefield, a very popular and worthy winner.

I will update with a few photos for now, below Maddy eyeing up something in the distance.

Again we took Sylvie and Madonna and both were 2nd in their respective classes, Sylvie was 2nd to the In Hand Champion Islay of Whitefield and Donna 2nd to the Reserve Champion , Ailsa of Sunnyneuk, congratulations to the Baird family and to Martin and Wendy, and also to Louise Cushnie who was 2nd with L Fiery Angel in the 2yo class.

Since last writing we have enjoyed our first show of the season, our local Angus Show. It was a super day, very sociable and the weather couldn't have been better, hope it is the same for the rest of the season !

We took Madonna and Sylvie, Madonna won a very strong class of 2 and 3yo fillies, and Sylvie was 4th in the brood mare class. We were delighted for Louise Cushnie who was second in Madonna's class with her 2yo filly Lochlands Fiery Angel.

Congratulations to the Baird family, who won the Highland Pony Championship, the Mountaina & Moorland Championship and were awarded the overall horse Champion with their brood mare Kimberly of Whitefield.

HIGHLAND PONY TALK FORUM

Sorry to everyone who is finding that the forum is not available just now. Hopefully it will be restored and back to normal very soon.

Unfortunately a fire at the company who host the proboards servers has caused a number of networks to be knocked out, unfortunately including the server that Highland Pony Talk is located on.

see news story: http://www.allheadlinenews.com:80/articles/7011131185

Everything will be restored and back to normal very soon, and I have been assured that all the data and content on the board is safe, so nothing will have been lost.

The ponies are all well and the foals are growing and enjoying the prolonged spell of dry weather we are having. I will hopefully find the time to get some new photographs of them this week.

I thought I would share with you the lovely painting that artist Nicolla Pennill painted of our filly Madonna last year , I think she has captured the spirit of Donna beautifully.

Congratulations to Mairi Page and her filly Lochlands Silver Chime, who stood reserve highland pony champion at the recent Strathbogie Farmers Club Show.

No Bank Holiday for us, but a glorious day, after a wet misty weekend the sun has returned, let's hope it is here to stay.

A few photos to update with.

Below two of Flute, who is still very foal proud and not very obliging about sharing her new baby ! Another few days and the novelty will have worn off.

I am very happy to report that our mares are all safely foaled, Mandy and Flute have both had colts by 'Sass'. We have six healthy foals, a filly and a colt by Belivat Muldoanich and one filly and three colts by Rignell Sassenach.

Once I have caught up on some much needed sleep, I will get out with the camera and update with photographs.

April 28th 2008

What a difference a day makes ! Yesterday glorious sun, this morning soaking wet.

Maddy foaled in the early hours of the morning a filly to 'Sass'. Not a day for the camera, will update with photos soon.

April 27th 2008

First sunny really warm day we have had, absolutely glorious. Lovely to see the ponies all contented, enjoying the sun and some heat on their backs.

We have two new foals Moonlight has a colt, by 'Sass' and Sylvie foaled yesterday and had a colt by Belivat Muldoanich.

Image: Magic's 2008 filly foal

Welcome to the latest arrival. Magic has had a filly foal, by Belivat Muldoanich.

Image:

Mother and daughter both doing well. The foal is delighful and very lively, running at great speed around the paddock, much to Magic's annoyance.

Image:

I will hopefuly have news of other new arrivals soon, the mares seem to be running late this year, maybe due to the cold late spring.

February 10th 2008

At last a wee update, although very little to report. The ponies are all wintering well, despite the increased amount of wet that we have had. They are still out on the stubble, and I am very much hoping that things will have dried up before they come back onto the grass paddocks in March.

The mares are all looking in foal now, and with the first of them being due in early April, it isn't too much longer to wait.

Image: Marimba & Treble Flute, the yearlings.

The two foals from last year, are both growing up now and beginning to look more like yearlings as opposed to foals. As the weather was surprisingly pleasant this morning for a change, I thought I would attempt to take some photos of them, unfortunately it was largely unsuccessful though, as they wanted to come and see what was going on ! I will have to try again another day.
